Our Principal

Dear Mustang Family,

Principal with studentSince 2020, it has been my honor to be the principal at Hazel Fischer. I’m beyond fortunate to get to work with the most amazing team and in such an incredible community; I truly love that I get to work and live here.

While my passion for teaching and learning takes up most of my time, I also love spending free time with my wife and two Labradors. Whenever I have the opportunity to get outdoors, my favorite activities include hunting, fishing, scuba diving, and riding motorcycles.

My career in education began while teaching with the Peace Corps in Kyrgyzstan. When I moved back to San Diego, I became an elementary school teacher for five years before moving into administration. I have earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from San Diego State University, a master’s degree in digital teaching and learning from Azusa Pacific University, a master’s degree in education from San Diego State University, and a doctorate in educational leadership from San Diego State University. While my formal coursework is complete, I try to model that learning and growing is an exciting lifelong process.

Principal Fausel with studentsAt Hazel Fischer, our team is committed to several universal practices that help us to live our mission, which is to make Hazel Fischer the safest, happiest, and best possible learning environment for all students. Our Modus Operandi identifies the specific research-based strategies that our entire staff uses every day as we strive to achieve our mission. For example, to help establish school as a safe and caring place at the door, we greet all of our students by name, with a smile, and eye contact every morning. We want all students to know that we are genuinely happy they are here and that we will do whatever it takes for their future success.

If you ever have any questions, concerns, or ideas, please reach out to me.

Best,
Ray
