It can be challenging to locate credible information and resources in today’s world. Our hope is that this website will serve as a hub for Vallecito Union School District staff, students, and their families in locating resources, both within the community as well as online. Beware of sites that offer products for sale or do not provide expert evidence to support their claims. The resources provided on this website have been vetted for accuracy. Because there are a lot of resources available, suggestions are welcome and will be reviewed for accuracy and safety prior to inclusion on this page.

General Information
Ill Student Protocol
Please use the Student/Staff Home Screening Tool located on the COVID Information page prior to coming on to campus for instruction or activities. Please remember if your student is not feeling well to keep them at home even if your student’s symptoms are not covered on the checklist.
Your student may not return to school until they have been fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and symptoms have improved. If your student appears ill at school they will be screened and sent home if symptoms are reported/observed.
Please use the Guidance for Return to School or Work form to understand current symptoms and exposure protocol driven by state and local guidelines.
Many cold and flu symptoms may not be related to COVID-19. However, at this time, state and local guidance require us to continue to take additional precautions related to illness.
Immunizations
California Health and Safety Code, Sections 120325-120375 and California Code of Regulations Title 17, Division 1, Chapter 4 sub chapter 8) and Vallecito Unified Board Policy (BP 5141.31) requires all students entering the school district, childcare program or transferring between school campuses must be fully immunized. An immunization record or medical exemption document must be presented to the school. Always bring an updated immunization record to your child’s school of attendance after any vaccine has been administered.

Medication
Medications should be administered at home by the parent whenever possible.
School personnel will assist students with taking prescribed medications during the school day when it is necessary to help the child stay in school. In order to assist with administering medication or treatment to your student at school, the following requirements must be met:

A Medication/Treatment Administration Authorization form completed by the physician and signed by parent for any medication to be administered at school (including over-the-counter medications must be on file at the school as required by law. See student health forms above.

Medications must be in the original prescription (pharmacy can provide a second labeled bottle upon request) or unopened over-the-counter labeled with the child’s name, medication name, dosage, and times to administer.

Parent/guardian must deliver the signed Medication/Treatment Administration Authorization form and medications directly to the school office or assigned employee so that the medication can be accepted and counted. See student health forms above.
Physical Examinations
For each child enrolling in the District for the first time in kindergarten or first grade, the parent or guardian must present a certificate, signed by a physician, verifying that the child has received a physical examination within the last 18 months. If your child does not receive this exam, you must file a waiver with the school district stating the reasons you are unable to obtain such services. You may have your child immunized at the same time that the physical examination is conducted.

If you want your child to be exempt from physical examinations at school, file a written statement annually with the school refusing such an exam. However, when there is a good reason to believe that your child is suffering from a recognized contagious or infectious disease, he/she may be sent home and shall not be permitted to return to school until the contagious or infectious disease does not exist.
