Discover the Magic of Our Library

Our library isn't just a place for books; it's a dynamic center of learning and discovery. We're proud to offer an array of programs, ensuring that reading is not only educational but also fun!

Here, you'll find a place where learning continues long after the school day ends. We proudly keep our doors open for parents, students, and the wider community on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 p.m. to 2:40 p.m. – making us the only school site to offer afterschool library access. Extended Day students can look forward to a weekly library time that enriches their educational journey.

Our collection spans a multitude of languages, and we're thrilled to provide adult books in Spanish upon request. You'll discover a diverse range of materials, from newspapers and magazines to captivating audiobooks, like Playaways, and engrossing graphic novels. With our convenient online library catalog, you can explore our offerings anytime, anywhere. And, don't forget to explore our Makerspace – an exciting part of our library where innovation and creativity come to life.

With a fixed schedule that ensures every student visits the library once a week, we aim to nurture young minds and create a lifelong passion for reading and learning. Our library is more than just a room filled with books; it's a gateway to a world of imagination, curiosity, and knowledge.

Welcome to our Makerspace!

A Makerspace is a place for making, collaborating, learning, and sharing. It's a place where students can gather to create, invent, tinker, and explore using a variety of tools and materials while engaging in science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

It's simply a space where students create!

Our Makerspace was created in the fall of 2017 after being awarded a $40,000 grant from the Wintercreek Foundation. A space was carved out of the exciting school library, materials were purchased, and we were on our way. Some of the tools that are in our Makerspace include:

  • LEGO/Epic Lego Wall

  • Cardboard constructing

  • KEVA Planks

  • Coding with Code-a-Pillars/Bee-Bots/Ozobots

  • Electronics

  • Circuitry with Snap Circuits

  • Cubelets

  • Littlebits

  • Sphero

  • PlusPlus

Meet our Library Media Specialist, Mrs. Melissa Francis

Hello, Michelson Trojans! I am excited to be your library media specialist. I've been at Michelson for over 25 years, and in the library for 23 years! I've been instrumental in creating our Makerspace which came to fruition in 2017. I'm the person who dresses up for book fairs and has been known to wear a costume to promote the yearly library theme! Some of the cool things that I do to celebrate literature include:

  • Yearly participation in the California Young Reader Medal program

  • Facilitate Read Across America Week

  • Yearly Book Fair

  • Literary Pumpkin Patch

  • Book Giveaway (three times a year!)

  • LEGO/STEAM Month

  • Fairytale Month including STEAM project

  • School-to-school connection projects with our middle school

The most important job I have is to instill a life-long love of reading!
