kids today we're going to talk about mass and fact families a fact family is a group of numbers that make up math facts if I looked at the numbers 1 shoe + 3 I can think of all of the addition and subtraction facts used with those numbers for example I could say lilac who equals 3 1 + 2 equals 1 2 3 I could also say who + 1 equals plus one equals 123 or a subtract fact I'm going to get a different color you always start with the biggest number what's the biggest number re 3 -1 equals start with three and take one away I have two left the last one I can write is 3 - 2 equals 1 -2 3 - 2 - 2 equals one stop these are all of the facts and minus that you can make with the numbers 1 to that's called a fact family let's try another fact family let's try with the numbers re + 5 do the addition we could say to Loess 3 equals 5 2 3 equals 5 1 2 3 4 5 we can also say three what equals those are our addition facts for this fact family now we're going to do the subtraction facts start with the biggest number 5 - 2 equals 3 5 - 2 Eagles 3-3 left 5 -3 equals -3 there are there is the fact family 423 + 5 let's do one more let's do 2 4 + 6 what is the fact family for 2 4 and 6 look like start with Edition 2 + 4 equals what 2 equals 6 horse have a little tail I'm having to write numbers with my mouse in it pretty tricky for subtraction start with the biggest number 6 - 4 equals 2 -2 equals 4 there's our fact family for 2 4 and 6 when you see the fact families part on your work packet in the math section you'll know just what to do have a good day
