Our Principal
Meet our principal, Stephanie Copp!

Dear Mustang Families,
I am filled with joy and excitement as I introduce myself as the Principal of Hazel Fischer Elementary School. I look forward to meeting new families and working alongside our students, parents, and community members. Hazel Fischer and the surrounding community is a valuable piece of our county and I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work alongside everyone on campus to bring a robust education to our students.
One of the things that makes this job so special to me is that I am a Calaveras County native, having been born and raised here. My roots run deep in this county and having attended local schools while also being a mother of two Vallecito Union School District students, working at Hazel Fischer is a dream come true for me. I have wonderful memories of hiking with my family at Big Trees State Park, swimming at Natural Bridges, and have logged many hours on our local lakes. Moving my family back to this area years ago to raise my children here was one of the best decisions we made. One of the reasons why our family made the choice to move back was due to the connections and experiences that our community has to offer. Being able to serve this community that has helped me achieve so much and helped mold me into the person I am today is a job I excitedly look forward to.
My career in education started with a passion for me wanting to do something to help my community. While I earned my Bachelor's degree from Santa Clara University I interned for a local United States Congressman who represented Calaveras County. I was able to work in the Sacramento and Washington D.C. offices. While there I realized that I wanted to make a difference in the lives of my local community members. I later began my teaching career in Manteca as a substitute teacher and became a classroom teacher while I earned my teaching credential. From there we moved to Angels Camp where I continued teaching. Moving to the Vallecito Union School District felt like a homecoming for me. While I started at Albert Michelson Elementary I took on a variety of different roles and earned my Administrative Credential and Masters degree.
As principal, I am eager to bring my experiences, skills, and passion to this incredible school. Together, we will create a learning environment that nurtures every child’s growth, celebrates their individuality, and inspires a love of learning. My door is always open, and I look forward to building strong relationships with all of you as we work together to support our students.
Thank you for welcoming me into the Mustang family. I am excited for another great year ahead and all the wonderful memories we will create together.
