Attendance

Your child should stay home if any of the following symptoms are present:

• Fever - temperature over 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit - your child must be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medications before returning to school.
• Vomiting - if your student has vomited two or more times in 24 hours, they must remain home for 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting.
• Rash (undiagnosed) - any rash, especially if accompanied by fever, should be evaluated by a healthcare provider. Follow the instructions on School attendance and provide a doctor's note if attendance is impacted.
• Infectious conjunctivitis - pink eye - may return to school 24 hours after starting antibiotics.
• Other discharge from eyes - may return to school once evaluated by a healthcare provider and determined not to be contagious.
• Cold sores or fever blisters - lesions must be dry for a child to attend school.
• Diarrhea - must stay home for 24 hours after the last episode of diarrhea.
• Ringworm - may return after beginning treatment.
• Impetigo - may return 24 hours after treatment is started and lesions are dry.
• Scabies - may return 24 hours after being treated.
• Chicken pox - may return When blisters are dry and crusted usually 5 to 7 days.
• Strep throat - may return 24 hours after treatment is started and student has been fever free for 24 hours.
• Upper respiratory infection, such as severe cold or bronchitis - keep your child home for one or more of the following symptoms: Excessive coughing, excessive nasal discharge, and or if your child does not feel well enough to participate in usual classroom activities

Your child should come to school if he or she exhibits any of the following.

• Seasonal allergies or common cold- stuffy nose, mild cough, sneezing.
• Constipation
• Chronic health conditions - such as diabetes, asthma and seizures- please contact the school nurse to develop an individual health plan to support School attendance while meeting student health needs.
• Poison oak - cover with clothing or a dressing if there is drainage.
• Head lice- treat at home as directed if no live bugs are found on inspection, students may attend school.
• Minor anxiety
• Mild strains, sprains or pain - generally students are able to manage with simple accommodations. If pain is severe or prolonged, please consult your healthcare provider.
• Family member is sick - always plan ahead and have a backup person to help if you are unable to drop off or pick up your student.
• Concerns about unfinished homework.

If your child needs to take medication at school, parent or guardian and physician are required to submit the form entitled, authorization for administration of medication during regular school hours, this form is required for all medications, both prescription and over-the-counter.
