Homework: Wednesday 11/20/19

RHR Vocabulary:  Study!
Grammar: Test on Verb Tenses is Friday. Be sure you are clear on "Perfect, Progressive" tips! These should be on your notes.
I Am Malala: Read Chapters 19 - 20. You will have a quiz on both chapters tomorrow.

Homework: Tuesday 11/19/18

RHR Vocabulary:  No written work tonight, but PLEASE review your words!
Grammar:  Periods 1 and 3 have a Worksheet on Review of Verb Tenses, page 40. Be sure to use your notes and follow the directions carefully! The Verb Tense Test is on Friday. Period 6 will go over page 40 in class tomorrow.
I Am Malala: Finish reading Chapter 17 and read Chapter 18. You do NOT need to annotate, but you will have a quiz on both chapters tomorrow. You can go online to read summaries, take a quiz on Quizlet, and if you have internet, you can listen to YouTube summaries/readings of the chapters.

RHR Vocabulary: Lesson 15: Worksheet
I Am Malala:   Chapter 15: Finish reading and annotating the chapter as we did in class; try to focus on the specific events, the emotions, and themes that are obvious.  Chapter 16: Read the chapter; you do not need to annotate, but there will be a Quiz on the chapter tomorrow.

RHR Vocabulary:  Study for tomorrow's test!
I Am Malala:  Read and annotate Chapter 14; be sure to make notes about different important themes (Power of Education/Women's Rights/Islam and Its Interpretations).

RHR Vocabulary:  Do the Lesson 14 Worksheet, page 58.
I Am Malala:  Write complete sentence responses to the 2 questions on the Chapter 12 Handout.
PLEASE check the Portal and see if you are missing any assignments! Many of you have very low grades in Reading due to missed chapters and handouts for I Am Malala.  The Trimester is ending on Friday, and I MUST have your work by Thursday at the latest! Thank you!

RHR Vocabulary:  STUDY for tomorrow's test!
Writing:  Performance Assessment Book: Read the essay on pages 6-7. As you read, find the author's CLAIM (the sentence that tells how he feels about learning a second language in school), and UNDERLINE it. In the chart you made in class today, fill in the "Positives" and "Negatives" the author gives for learning a second language.
I Am Malala:  1. Finish the Chapter 11 Quiz you started in class. Remember, you can use your chapter!  2. Read Chapter 12; you do NOT need to annotate, but you will need to answer a few questions tomorrow about this chapter.

RHR Vocabulary:  Write the Word/POS/Definition for Lesson 13 words
I Am Malala:   Read Chapter 11. You do NOT need to annotate this chapter, but you will be responding to 20 specific questions during class tomorrow; you will be able to use your chapter, but be FAMILIAR with the chapter so that you will be able to complete the quiz.

RHR Vocabulary:  Lesson 13: Review/study words/POS/ and Definitions
Reading: I Am Malala:  As you read Chapter 10, find 5 tragic/sad/ unfair events that occur. In the margins, tell what the event is. Keep these comments brief; simply tell what event occurred. You do NOT need to annotate, but be sure you read the whole chapter.

Homework: Monday 11/4/19

RHR Vocabulary:  Lesson 13 Worksheet, "Numbers 5-10," page 56.
Writing: Write or type a final draft of the "Walk" poem to be turned in tomorrow.
Reading:   I Am Malala:  Read pages 111 - the top of page 118. As you read, complete the handout that was passed out today in class.

Homework: Thursday 10/31/19

Since we have only had 2 days of school this week, the RHR Vocabulary Test will be on Monday. PLEASE be sure to study over the weekend! Also, you will be tested on the Helping Verbs Monday, so study them! They are:

shall.
 
The "Walk" poem should be worked on, and we will complete it on Monday during class.

RHR Vocabulary:  Study!!!
I Am Malala:  Read and annotate Chapter 8. Try to continue annotating the way we began in class; read a paragraph at a time, then make one or two comments about the main idea of the paragraph in the margin. Keep it simple!
NOTE: Many of you are not getting your homework done and turned in...please work on this!!

Homework: Tuesday 10/22/19

RHR Vocabulary:  Choose 6 of your words and write a sentence for each, using the definition instead of the word.
I Am Malala:  Complete the Theme Tracker for Chapter 7. Remember, you MUST use the colors, not the color words! When you write comments, you are choosing the ONE theme you feel is the strongest in that summary section and supporting your choice.

Homework: Monday 10/21/19

RHR Vocabulary:  Do the Worksheet for Lesson 11.
Close Reader: Reread "The Outsider;" as you read, complete the following annotation questions: #3, #5, #7, #9, #11, and #13. Some of these are simple, such as underlining words, phrases, etc.; others are more difficult to find or determine. Please be as complete as possible!
I Am Malala:  Finish reading and annotating Chapter 7. This second half is filled with information about the military groups and activities that took place, and the involvement of American military in Pakistan. It is difficult to read, so try to find the events that you understand and focus on them. 

Homework: Friday, 10/18/19

4th Period Only: I Am Malala: Read pages 90-95 of Chapter 7; annotate as you read. There is a long explanation of how the Islamic religion started and the divisions that took place; try to make notes about this. Also, make notes about why someone is trying to shut down Ziauddin's school.
