Vallecito Union Offers Expanded, All Day Transitional Kindergarten

In 2021 legislation was passed to gradually expand Transitional Kindergarten (TK) over a four-year period, between the 2022-23 to 2025-26 school years, until all 4-year-olds have the opportunity to attend a high-quality, developmentally appropriate TK program prior to entering Kindergarten.  Vallecito Union School District began planning in 2021-22 to expand the offerings to TK eligible students.  As a result, we have developed a program that consist of:

TK classes are all taught by specialized teacher with Early Childhood Learning Credentials
Each TK class has a student to adult ratio of 10 to 1.
Specific curriculum and supplemental materials have been purchased
Play-based learning occurs in all classes
Both Elementary School sites offer TK programs
Large classrooms with designated age appropriate bathrooms

The Governing School Board consisting of Mark Dyken, Susan Singleton, Jodi Sledge, Shannon Simpson and Jessica Hitchcock reviewed and approved the final TK plan in June of 2022, which expands the TK offering to students whose 5th birthday is not until Feb. 15th.
