Hey all- the subject of twins has always fascinated me! Randy & Anthony, my twin sister & myself... and did you know Mrs Trent has a twin too?!? AND, my twin sister has twin boys that are YOUR age.

Anyway, growing up as a twin definitely had it's ups and downs for my sister & I. There were days that we LOVED being twins and days we didn't love it so much. There were things that made twinship super fun and other times, having a twin made life more challenging. In my class at high school, we had four set of twins!! And each pair of twins was so different and we all had different opinions and stories about our twinhoods.

And now, I'm always just interested to see how people think having a twin would feel. I'm also super interested to hear from Randy and Anthony to see what their opinions are (Although we all already know that they are like best of friends and amazing together!)

Make sure you have 3 - 5 fractions of toppings on each of the pizzas. List your fractions on the fraction key for each pizza. To finish this assignment, you will write a word problem about your pizza fractions. Have fun with this assignment!

Today we will be writing more FRACTIONS! Fractions can be represented in other ways too besides shapes. For example, the fraction of blueberry muffins compared to banana nut in a batch of one dozen muffins could be 7/12. Meaning 7 blueberry muffins out of 12 total muffins.

On slide 5, you will be writing fractions on groups of objects. For example, you will write the number of cats in a group of animals, or the number of striped sun glasses in a group. The top number (or numerator) will be the group you are asked to look for. The bottom number (or denominator) is the total number of objects in the group.

If you need to see the images zoomed in, click the MAGNIFYING glass on the tool bar at the top of your assignment (about the 6th button from the left). I recommend zooming in to 100%. Then you can zoom in and see everything on your screen by scrolling around.

I know this assignment is listed as "ungraded", but I want you guys to know I go to Reflex each day and look at your facts, scores, and fluency. I will be using this information for your report cards. So, just in case you thought I was torturing you with math facts... I am (again, insert evil laugh here). But it's also VERY IMPORTANT you practice each day and keep your brain thinking. AND, I'm using the information in place of our 5-minute tests!

Today you will be writing unit fractions for each shape. Here's a little reminder about writing fractions:

The numerator (or top number in the fraction) is how many pieces are shaded in the shape. HINT: In this assignment, this number will always be 1. Because the directions are asking to write the area of each piece of the whole.

The denominator (or bottom number in the fraction) is the total number of pieces in the shape (including the shaded part!)

Hi all,
I love that we have a "pattern" of work going so we all know what to do and we have a routine. But, I thought maybe it was time to shake it up a bit! Let's try this Red/Blue Spelling for today. We have done this in class before so it should feel familiar.

It will be easiest if you type all of your words in one color (perhaps blue) then go back and change just the vowels to red! That will go quicker than changing the color one letter at a time. Just a thought.

Also, I listed your words for the week on slide 1 (oi sounds!) but you can also see them in your blue folder.

Awesome start last week on FRACTIONS! To start on math today, please watch the Partitioning Shapes and Writing Fractions video below. Then, complete the Monday google slides assignment.

I am going to try work with you a bit on this today after we talk about Fourth Grade Rats. I was going through your animal report paragraphs- which ALL follow the structure very well. You have an introduction sentence, 3 details, and a conclusion sentence. That is SO awesome and I am so proud of you.

But, as I was reading, some of your details were in all the paragraphs. This would not make your report really fun to read if everything just keeps getting repeated, right? I also noticed that some of your details (which were so interesting and awesome) were a bit mixed up. Like you have details about what they eat in the paragraph about their homes, or details about their life cycle in the paragraph about their diet.

So, JUST FOR YOU, because I love you😃 , I made this detail sort. I copied every detail sentence you wrote and there's a box for each paragraph. I would like to work with you (or your parents can) to sort the details into the matching topics.

Then, next week, I am going to help retype your paragraphs with all the details in the right spot! (and maybe add a few details if a topic needs more info) I'll have you tell me the sentences out loud and I'll do the typing for you, okay? I know you've worked super hard on this so I don't want you to feel like it's this HUGE thing you have to redo. I just want to reorganize some of your thoughts with you! Next week, our class is doing the art for your report (not writing), so you & I can take some time to work privately on this in a Google Meet and get it re-sorted easy peasy.

Now we are moving on to chapter 8. That means we are starting fractions! To start, we will be learning about how to equally divide a whole object. Think about a pan of brownies. If you want to share a pan of brownies between yourself and 5 other friends, you would cut it into 6 equal pieces. Today you will be looking at shapes and determining is this divided up into EQUAL parts or UNEQUAL parts.

Here is some new vocabulary about what the parts are called when they are divided:
2 equal parts - halves
3 equal parts - thirds
4 equal parts - fourths
6 equal parts - sixths
8 equal parts - eighths

Miss Titus made a beautiful collage from her art lesson with you on Friday (I attached it below). Next, we're going to use our journal time to write a thank you letter to our health care workers.

It's Week 26 everyone! I chose to cancel our regular list for week 26 and do all suffixes instead. Why, you ask? Well, week 26 was originally filled with apostrophes and pretty difficult grammar rules to go along with it. I know if we were all together in class, we could totally conquer this list, but I think it may literally make you AND you parents all pull your hair out strand by strand trying to practice the apostrophe words. SO, suffixes it is! We know suffixes. We're good at suffixes. Learning suffixes is something you're also supposed to do in third grade! So, have fun!

Okay, guys! Today we are going to try a different type of lesson in Think Central. It's the same material (divide by 9), but it's a different program called Personal Math Trainer. This one is cool, because it looks for things you answer incorrect or seem to struggle with and then at the end it gives you a "prescription"- which is extra problems to practice what you struggle with!

When you finish the first part of the assignment, you'll turn it in. Then when you go back to your "Things to Do" list on the homepage, you'll have a new link called "prescription" (I think). You'll need to click that and go through the extra practice problems! (It will look something like the photo below). It's like when I call you up to the front table to go over math homework with me ~ we're just doing it through a computer (bummer!)

REOPEN this assignment in Google Classroom when you're done and click the "mark as done" green button again! Then I'll check to see if you got all the way through everything!

Hey, everyone! You guys are doing SOOOOO incredibly amazing at figuring all this stuff out. So, when you open up the Skills pages, you have your own copy. You should be able to go in (open as Google Doc) and bold, underline, change text colors, etc. And once you are all done, and ready for me to check it over, then you need to hit the "TURN IN" button at the top of your page! (DO NOT hit the "share" button like I told you before- I was wrong! I know... weird.) So, I'm giving us an extra day to figure this out because it's crazysauce and I was confused about where everyone's work went. So even if you think you turned it in already, please go back and hit that "TURN IN" button if you can. Thank you!

Use the spelling list in your blue folder for Week 23 and sort the words. When you are done, be sure to hit "TURN IN" so I get a copy sent back to me! (I think that's how it works, at least! We'll see!)
