Principal's Message

Dear Michelson Community,

I wanted to take an opportunity to update you on a new required notification procedure we will be implementing relating to Covid-19 cases.  As you know, this is an ever-changing landscape with regulations and requirements, and as new developments and procedures are developed, we implement them.

In the past, the classroom cohort that was exposed to a potential confirmed positive contact was notified.  There was not a school-wide notification.   Moving forward, we will be notifying the entire school community of potential exposure to a positive case or if there is exposure to someone that has been placed under mandatory quarantineOf course, no personal identification information regarding the case is ever released. In addition, the classroom cohort will continue to receive a more specific response letter indicating next steps to self-monitor or quarantine, as directed by our nursing staff and Public Health officials.

I wanted to share this change in policy with you in advance so there would not be any confusion.  If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me at 650-996-3290.

I also wanted to let you know that the District will begin voluntary surveillance testing with staff members next Friday.  This was a program developed by the Calaveras County Office of Education and the nursing staff, and we are grateful for this additional detection/protection measure.  Again, this is for staff only, but it is another “quick check” to make sure we are being as proactive as possible.

We once again appreciate and are very grateful to our families for their diligence in keeping students home who are ill.  Your vigilance, and in some cases, sacrifice, in doing so is assisting us in the best manner possible to keep our schools operating with in-person learning.

We continue to be grateful for your partnership and support.

MPC

I am grateful to Lindsay Holloway, Lea-Marie Parr, Brooke Hill, Heather Rickerson, Amber Glanville, and Summer Nicotero who have stepped up and reformed our Michelson Parents Club (MPC) Executive Board.  They will be sending our information about MPC shortly.  Our events are curtailed by the restrictions of Covid-19, but there are still some great opportunities to support the students at school. I appreciate the leadership of these ladies!

Take care,

Louise Simson
